Online Predators Apprehended

35-year-old John Bockwitz of Bemidji and Paul Caird of Akeley were arrested on Saturday and Monday, respectively, charged with arranging to meet and have sex with minors through social media. Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension agents placed a “casual encounters” ad online.

Last Day Sign-Ups for Crew52

The Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee announced last call to sign-up for Crew 52. Those interested in volunteering to welcome visitors to Minnesota during our 10-day Super Bowl festival have just today to register at; Sign-up for a volunteer interview by Saturday, September 30.

MN Reading Grant

Minnesota has been awarded a $21.2 million grant to improve the reading skills of 30,000 students. The U.S. Department of Education grant is intended to improve reading skills of Minnesota students through grade 12.

Search Renewed for Missing Teen

After Cass Lake teen Jeremy Jourdain’s disappearance last Halloween night, his family hopes a new search from scratch will bring the 18-year-old home. The teen’s family have asked for the community’s help this Saturday. The search will take two different routes toward Cass Lake. Jourdain is a 6-foot-4, 175 pound Native American.

October is College Knowledge Month

Bemidji State University and Northwest Technical College will join other Minnesota State colleges and universities and waive their application fees during the month of October. College Knowledge Month is a statewide effort to provide every graduating high school senior the opportunity to apply to college.

Beltrami Co. Sheriff’s Reports

On Monday at 8:36pm Beltrami County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Birt responded to a civil complaint reported by Susan Prentice Hallet of 616 Patriot Drive NW, Apartment #10, in Bemidj. No additional information regarding the complaint was released.
At 6:47pm Monday, 63-year-old Terry Lee Hower was arrested for a probation violation warrant at 28410 Hornet Road NE in Blackduck by Beltrami deputies Thomas Mishler and Joshua Arhart, in response to complainant Krisann Kellin Ehrman.
and; Deputy Alison Critchfield responded to a report of a juvenile runaway in Bemidji.

It’s Voter Registration Day

Today is National Voter Registration Day, and Secretary of State Steve Simon is encouraging all eligible Minnesotans who are not yet registered to vote to visit and register. If you don’t vote, you don’t count.

Sheriffs, LLTB Respond to Reckless Vehicle

On Monday at 9:16pm Beltrami County Sheriff’s Sgt. Samuel Lundquist responded to a complaint reported by Stephanie Lee Steele of a reckless vehicle. Deputies were assisted by Leech Lake Tribal Police in checking the area of Davis Lane NE and Beach Road NE in Bemidji for the vehicle.

BSU Cancer Seminar Tonight

Bemidji State University’s Department of Biology is hosting a graduate seminar on cancer research and Northern Pike population this evening at 6 p.m. in Sattgast Hall room 208. The seminar is promoted by Sanford Health of Bemidji, is open to the public and free of charge.

Deputies Assist BPD with Bemidji Arrest

Sgt. Jason Riggs reports county deputies assisted Bemidji Police in arresting 19-year old Brent Roy Cloud on Sunday morning around 7:30am at 2524 Park Avenue NW, unit 3 in Bemidji, at the request of complainant Patience Ann Thoms. Officer Andrew Burford was assisted by several deputies.
