Farwell Farm Death

A Farwell, Minnesota farmer reportedly died Sunday in an accident while he was chisel plowing. On October 29th, at about 7:42 a.m., the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting the farm accident in Moe Township. Deputies found the victim, whose name is being withheld pending family notification, deceased in the field.

Farmer’s Financial Counseling

The Red River Farm Network reports that financial counseling is now available to farmers. You can get more information from the Minnesota Corn Growers Association and Minnesota Farm Bureau.

UM Discrimination Hearing Today

An $18 million discrimination lawsuit brought against the University of Minnesota Duluth by three former women’s sports coaches will be on the line today at a key hearing in a Minneapolis courtroom. Attorneys for the university want a federal judge to grant summary judgment, denying the women’s claims and putting an end to the matter. The man charged with settling the dispute is Duluth native U.S. District Judge Patrick Schiltz.

Leon Twp. Fire Victims Identified

Update on the two victims in the fire in Leon Township; they have been identified as 57-year old Scott Tracy Shoberg of Blaine and his brother, 52-year- old Kurt Allan Shoberg of Andover, MN. The cause of the fatal fire is still unknown and remains under investigation.

SB LII Festivities Unveiled

The Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee has unveiled the first details about Super Bowl LIVE presented by Verizon. Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis will be the site of the massive free ten-day fan festival leading up to Super Bowl LII.

Firearms Deer Hunting Begins Sat.

The 2017 firearms deer hunting season in the Bemidji area begins Saturday, Nov. 4, and continues through Sunday, Nov. 19. Hunters in Permit Area 184 will have the option to shoot any deer they want.

BSU Honors Veterans

Bemidji State University will recognize those who serve in uniform with a series of events leading up to Veteran’s Day on Nov. 6 with a flag-raising ceremony, a panel featuring BSU president Dr. Faith Hensrud, and a screening of the documentary “Almost Sunrise.” BSU will be closed in observance of the holiday on Friday, Nov. 10.

Two Die in Clearwater Fire

Saturday at 7:06 a.m., Clearwater County Sheriff’s responded to a structure fire in Leon Township. First responders found a trailer home fully engulfed in flames. After the fire was extinguished, two bodies were discovered inside, believed to be Twin Cities-area hunters. Their identities are expected to be released today.

RI Driver in St. Louis Co. Ditch Sunday

Sunday at 8:06pm, A Mitsubishi traveling north on Highway 169 in St. Louis County swerved for an animal, over corrected and went off the road into a ditch, coming to rest in the tree line. 56-year-old Driver Joan Berrigan of Warwick Rhode Island was taken to Ely Bloomensen Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
