Beltrami County Sheriff’s Report

Beltrami County Sheriff’s deputies located a vehicle at 9:48pm on Monday, reported stolen out of Hubbard County. A pursuit began near Mission Rd and ended on Highway 2, where 27-year-old Jeramie Beaulieu and 23-year-old Brian Fairbanks were arrested and taken into custody in the area of Beaulieu Circle NE in Bemidji.

On Monday, shortly after 10am, Beltrami County Sheriff’s deputies assisted Bemidji Police in arresting 44-year-old Willard Reed in the area of 229th Avenue in Bemidji. Reed was taken into custody on a probation violation.

Minn. State Professors Get New Contract

Negotiators from the Inter Faculty Organization and Minnesota State have tentatively agreed to a 1.6 percent salary increase this school year and a 2.4 percent raise in 2018, with improvements to health and dental benefits. The union also represents professors at Bemidji State University.

Cecena Sentenced Tuesday

22-year-old Francisco Cecena, who pleaded guilty in October to burglary, aggravated robbery, false imprisonment and possession of methamphetamine, was sentenced today to eight years in prison. Cecena and others robbed a trailer home on March 9.

Roseau Senior Dies from Crash Injuries

The Minnesota State Patrol responded to a rollover crash on Highway 2 in Feeley Township on November 26th, and 87-year-old driver Arthur Carlson of Roseau died today from his injuries. 53-year-old passenger Rachel Carlson was also hospitalized with life threatening injuries at Grand Itasca Hospital.

DNR Says No New CWD Outbreaks

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reports that precautionary test results show no new outbreaks of Chronic Wasting Disease have appeared in wild deer that hunters harvested this fall in north-central, central and southeastern Minnesota, based on over 11,000 precautionary samples collected.

Line 3 Protest Monday

Protesters in rural Carlton County marched down the center of a county road on Monday in opposition to the still-uncertain Enbridge Line 3 pipeline replacement. The event was organized by both the nonprofit indigenous justice agency Honor the Earth and the Makwa Initiative.

Clearwater Fire Victims Identified

On Monday, the Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office positively identified the two men found dead Saturday morning in a mobile home fire as 57-year-old Scott Shoberg of Blaine, and 52-year-old Kurt Shoberg of Andover. The two brothers use the trailer as a hunting cabin.

MnDOT Winter Load Increases

The Minnesota Department of Transportation reports Winter Load Increases will begin on unrestricted highways in the NORTH FROST ZONE just after midnight on Thursday, December 14th. Vehicles will be allowed to operate up to 10 percent over the standard legal maximum loads on unrestricted highways.

JPB Report to Council

Greater Bemidji Area Joint Planning Board Director Casey Mai presented a report to Bemidji City Councilors at Monday’s meeting, saying the JPB should focus on updating the zoning ordinance, which was put in place in 2007.
