Beltrami County Sheriff’s Report

On Thursday at 9:32pm, Beltrami County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 55-year-old Lisa Seter, while performing a traffic stop in the area of Whiting Drive and Tavistock Road NW in Bemidji. Ms. Seter was arrested for third degree driving while intoxicated.

Beltrami County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 28-year-old Laurie Headbird in the area of U.S. Highway 2 in Bemidji on Thursday at approximately 7:35pm. Ms. Headbird was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant.

On Thursday at 3:16pm, Beltrami County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an accident report in the area of U.S. Highway 2 W and 15th Street NW in Bemidji, where deputies assisted Minnesota State Patrol with a one vehicle crash. No injuries were reported. Deputies provided an unidentified female driver with a courtesy ride to the County Law Enforcement Center in Bemidji.

Grand Rapids Wants Pipeline Cleanup

As the state weighs approval of a new Enbridge Line 3 pipeline, the question of what to do with the old line remains for Grand Rapids city leaders– who asked for the total removal of the abandoned Line 3 within the Wellhead Protection Area. Landowners and other interested parties have met with organizers from Minnesotans for Pipeline Cleanup.

Wind Chill Warning til Jan. 1

The Wind Chill Advisory in effect until 6pm this evening has been upgraded to a Wind Chill Warning, in effect until 9am Monday January 1st…Dangerously cold wind chills ranging from 25 to 50 degrees below zero are expected, which will cause frostbite in as little as 10 minutes to exposed skin.
Affected areas include most of north and central Minnesota along with eastern North Dakota. Frost bite and even hypothermia or death can occur if precautions are not taken, according to the National Weather Service.

Skate with Smokey in Walker Jan. 13

The Walker Area Community Center will host their “Skate with Smokey Bear” event, and eat free pizza Jan. 13. The event goes from noon to 1:30 p.m. and raises funds for the Wildland Firefighter Foundation.

BOC, City Council, BEDA Meet Tuesday, Jan. 2

The Beltrami County Board of Commissioners will meet at 5pm on Tuesday, January 2nd in the County Board room of the administration building at 701 Minnesota Avenue in Bemidji for the election of the 2018 Board Chair and Co-Chair. The work session doesn’t start until 4pm.

The Bemidji City Council will meet on Tuesday, January 2nd in Council Chambers at City Hall. New Business includes a resolution declaring a council vacancy in Ward 4, and discussing the process for filling the vacancy; as well as a resolution authorizing an application to Region 2 Arts Council.

The Bemidji Economic Development Authority will meet upon the conclussion of the regular City Council Meeting in Council Chambers for their annual meeting, and the appointment of officers.

MSP Reports

Minnesota State Patrol reports that seven people were involved in a 2-vehicle accident on Thursday at about 5:29pm on Highway 169 north of 13th St E in Hibbing A Ford Ranger fishtailed off the road across the median in icy conditions, and was struck by a Chevy Avalanche. None of the injuries was life threatening.

MSP reminds you that the results of a Preliminary Breathe Test cannot be used against a DWI suspect in court, but under state law, a PBT is authorized when a law enforcement officer has reason to believe you are impaired. If so, you can and will be arrested.

Gallup Says Nursing Most Honest Profession

The Minnesota Nurses Association proudly reports that, once again, nurses are the most honest and ethical profession in the nation, according to a Gallup poll. More than 82 percent of Americans describe nurses’ ethics as ‘very high’ or ‘high’ in the survey.

Teen Steals Car Over Cigarettes

A teenager stole a car from a gas station in St. Paul on Christmas Day after the car’s owner wouldn’t buy him cigarettes. The owner, 32-year-old Rashad Turner, is a former leader with Black Lives Matter St. Paul. 17-year-old Parker LaFromboise faces charges of theft of a motor vehicle and fleeing a police officer.

Franken Thanks Supporters Tonight

Outgoing Sen. Al Franken is scheduled to make an appearance tonight to publicly thank his “supporters and friends,” while one new poll shows the majority of Minnesota voters don’t think he should resign. Franken is scheduled to officially resign next Tuesday, Jan. 2.

Beltrami County Sheriff’s Report

On Wednesday at 5:39pm, Beltrami County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a vehicle stuck in a ditch in the area of Birchmont Beach Road NE and New Bass Road NE in Bemidji, where 18-year-old Steve Whitefeather was arrested for driving under the influence.

Early on Wednesday at approximately 2am, Beltrami County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of disorderly conduct in the area of Carmen Drive NW in Bemidji. One male party, identified as 38-year-old Nicholas Vititoe, was arrested by deputies and taken into custody.

Beltrami County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report at 7:23am Wednesday in the area of Plantagenet Road SW and 219th Street in Bemidji, where a two-vehicle accident occurred. The investigation revealed it happened on the other side of the county line, so Hubbard County authorities were notified.
