Red Lake Reservation Drug Bust

Seven people were arrested after a drug-related search warrant was executed Friday on the Red Lake Indian Reservation. The Red Lake Police Department and Drug Task Force found over 25 grams of methamphetamine, drug paraphrenalia and cash. Read more at; bemidjipioneer.com.

Bemidji Predator Gets Stayed Sentence

53-year-old Anthony Granger of Bemidji, who sexually assaulted a vulnerable adult while he was employed at an area REM home, received a 180 day sentence on Monday, and stayed a sentence of four years. He will not go to prison as long as he complies with the conditions of his probation for the next 15 years.

MN, Federal Tax Filing Begins

Minnesota taxpayers can begin filing their state income tax returns as of Monday, January 29th. This is the same date the Internal Revenue Service began accepting federal income tax returns. Taxpayers have until Tuesday, April 17th to file and pay their state and federal income taxes.

McNamara Wins Dist. 54 GOP Primary

Denny McNamara beat James Brunsgaard III in the Republican primary on Monday, Jan. 29th with 85 percent of the vote, earning a spot on the Feb. 12 special election ballot for the District 54 Senate seat against DFL Rep. Karla Bigham and Libertarian Emily Mellingen to replace Sen. Dan Schoen, who resigned in December amid allegations of sexual misconduct.

$7 Million For MN Voting Machines

Secretary of State Steve Simon has announced that his office has awarded $7 million to Minnesota cities and counties to assist with the purchase of new voting equipment. The effort to replace Minnesota’s aging election equipment was signed into law with broad bipartisan support.

Beltrami County Sheriff’s Reports

On Monday at 9:07pm, 19-year-old Brittany Lowry was arrested by Beltrami County Sheriff’s deouties on US Highway 2 in Bemidji on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

On Monday at 9:02pm, Beltrami County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported suicide attempt at an undisclosed location in Bemidji. Deputies transported an unidentified male to the emergency room for evaluation. No additional information about his condition was made available.

Beltrami County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an accident report on Monday at 6:48pm, where 20-year-old Trevor Hentges was arrested after his vehicle struck a utility pole in the area of Second Street NW in Blackduck. He was taken into custody and charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

MN Moose Decrease Coincides with Wolf Increase

A study published this January in the Wildlife Society Bulletin found the rapidly increasing wolf population in Northeastern Minnesota coincided with the demise of moose in the 800-square-mile area of the Superior National Forest, from nearly 9,000 in 2006 to fewer than 4,000 in recent winters.

Metal Detectors at Fargodome

More than two-dozen walk-through metal detectors have been installed at the Fargodome and staff are now undergoing training as part of a security upgrade. The detectors reportedly won’t be used for the Monster Jam truck show Friday and Saturday.

MnDOT Studies Tolling

The Minnesota Department of Transportation recently released a study that examines the feasibility of broader system of toll roads in the state In 2017, the Minnesota State Legislature required MnDOT to look at modern tolling practices in other states, legal considerations and traffic and revenue analysis.

Local Law Allows Snipe Signage
