Climate Doc at Calvary Lutheran

On Saturday, the Bemidji Citizens’ Climate Lobby is showing “Saving Snow,” a film about activists, business owners and community leaders working toward clean energy solutions in ski towns. The film is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Calvary Lutheran Church.

MPCA, DNR Earmark Settlement

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and the Department of Natural Resources are making plans to allocate the $850 million in funds from the 3M settlement. The funds will be allocated for improvements to water quality and sustainability; restoring the area’s natural resources; and statewide water remediation.

New College Intimacy Policy

The Minnesota State Board of Trustees approved a policy change where students and staff could be punished if they fail to obtain affirmative consent for sex through “words or clear, unambiguous action.” It applies to some 375,000 people at Minnesota’s 30 state-run colleges and seven universities.

$1.5M Roundabout Project

The Beltrami County Highway Department and the Minnesota Department of Transportation have proposed a roundabout at the off ramps on the south end of the bridge over U.S. Highway 71 on Irvine Avenue. The project cost is $1.5 million.

Winter Weather Advisory

A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 3pm today, and remain in effect through Friday for Crow Wing, Cass, Pine and Aitkin Counties. A fast-moving area of low pressure will bring a quick burst of snow and freezing drizzle to the Northland.

MN Legislative Session Begins

The Minnesota Legislative Session convened in St. Paul on Tuesday, and House DFL Leader Melissa Hortman talked about their priorities. Lawmakers have twelve weeks to accomplish their work.

Lifeguard Training Mar. 1

Lifeguard training for Bemidji begins with a pre-test on March 1st at 6pm at BSU’s Gillett Wellness Center. Candidates should be able to swim to the bottom in 12 feet of water, swim 300 yards with a front crawl or breast stroke, tread water for at least 2 minutes and tow practice victims across the width of the pool.

Beltrami County Sheriff’s Report

Beltrami County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a juvenile female runaway in Bemidji on Tuesday at 9:26pm. No additional details were released by the Sheriff’s Office.

On Tuesday at 10:52am, Beltrami County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a complainant in the area of Fairgrounds Road NW in Bemidji, where 57-year-old Edward Davis was issued a citation, reportedly to be mailed, for disorderly counduct.

Beltrami County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a complainant’s report of property damage in the area of Irvine Avenue NW in Bemidji at approximately 8:40am on Tuesday. Deputies came upon a single vehicle crash site, where no injuries were reported.

On Tuesday at 12:37pm, Beltrami County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of suicidal behavior in an undisclosed location in Bemidji. The unidentified subject was transported to the Sanford Bemidji ER for evaluation.

Council Awards Project to Reierson

The Bemidji City Council on Tuesday awarded a bid to Reierson Construction to handle its Street Renewal Program in 2018. The city plans to reconstruct six neighborhood streets, totaling 1.7 miles. This year’s program includes changing Bardwell Drive Northwest on the Anne Street loop from gravel to paved.

District 518 Lawsuit

A former employee of District 518 in Southern Minnesota vacated her position due to alleged personal mistreatment, while simultaneously filing a complaint against the district with the Department of Education. District 518 Superintendent John Landgaard confirmed Monday that a complaint has been filed. Read more at; bemidjipioneer.com.
