New Grand Forks Superintendent

The Grand Forks School Board selected Terry Brenner for the position of superintendent of schools at its regular meeting Monday, February 19th. The selection of Grand Forks’ former director of curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional development, was approved by a vote of eight to one.

Beltrami Electric Coop Elections

Beltrami Electric Cooperative will hold meetings in three districts whose directors are up for re-election. Nominations will be accepted at these meetings. The two top candidates will have their names on the general election ballot.

BHS Teacher Organizing Protest

Bemidji High School teacher Gina Marie Bernard wants students and educators to leave class next month to make a point about school violence and pressure lawmakers to address the decades-long rash of school shootings. The BHS English teacher is organizing a walkout at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 14th.

Winter Weather Advisory Tuesday

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, which remains in effect until noon today for portions of Beltrami, Clay, Polk, Mahnomen, Norman and Clearwater Counties, with periods of snow causing travel difficulties. Be prepared for covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.

MDH and DHS Posting Together

The Minnesota Department of Health and Department of Human Services will be posting weekly reports on the MDH website to show the progress of inter-agency partnership in addressing the problems documented in the Office of Health Facility Complaints. Go to; health.state.mn.us for more information.

BEDA Meeting Tuesday After Council

The Bemidji Economic Development Authority will meet in Council Chambers at the conclusion if the regular Bemidji City Council meeting, which includes the Mayor’s State of the City Address. On the agenda is consideration of a location for Hockey Day 2019.

7 Injured in 3-Vehicle Crash Sunday

Seven people were injured in a three-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday evening near Bemidji. They were transported to Sanford Bemidji Medical Center. According to the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office, the crash was reported at about 6 p.m. on Roosevelt Road near the intersection with Frohn Road.

Mayor’s State of the City Tuesday

The Bemidji City Council will meet on Tuesday at 6pm in Council Chambers at 317 fourth Street NW for the Mayor’s State of the City Address, to be followed by the regular meeting. New business includes; the 2018 Street Renewal Project Resolution Awarding a Bid for Project #18-01.

Beltrami BoC Meets Tuesday

The Beltrami County Board of Commissioners will meet on Tuesday in the County Board Room on Minnesota Avenue at 5pm. A consent agenda item deals with acceptance of a $5,000 grant from the Department of Public Safety.
