DOT Looking For Snowfence Installation Locations

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is already looking ahead to next winter, and they want to find landowners to install snow fences in open areas along state highways. Bemidji Kids Fishing Day A Big Success

The annual Take A Kid Fishing Day was held on Wednesday on Lake Bemidji. Almost 100 kids between the ages of 10 to 15 turned out for the big day on the water with their guides… volunteers who in many cases, have been doing it for years. They say they never turn a kid down. Every child that shows up with an application, is able to fish. The day wrapped up at Lake Bemidji State Park with a fish fry and hotdog cookout for the children and volunteers, where they all shared their stories, and bragged about who caught the biggest fish.

Lakewalk Construction Approved

The pricetag for redesign and repairs for Lakewalk along Lake Superior in Duluth, will be around $9 million… that’s what an engineering and consulting firm says it will cost to repair the trail after a pair of storms eroded rock, shifted earth and flipped boardwalk pieces. An application for emergency funding was approved in May. Duluth will foot part of the cost, but the majority will be paid for through the State of Minnesota Homeland Security Emergency Management. If everything goes according to plan, bidding for the construction will begin in September, construction will start in October, and the Lakewalk will be fixed by late 2019.

Bemidji Lions To Dedicate New Bench

The Bemidji Lions Club have announced, that they plan to host a dedication for the Centennial Legacy Project Monday at 1:30pm at Diamond Point Park. The Bemidji Lions Club has donated money to the Bemidji Parks and Recreation Department, earmarked for a park bench and commemorative centennial plaque to be placed at Diamond Point Park. Bemidji Lions Club officers, board members and club members will be joined by city official to dedicate the centennial legacy park bench. The event is open to the public.

Weekend ATV Crashes – 9 Year Old Boy Killed

There were two ATV crashes in Cass County over the weekend… with one of them leaving a 9 year old boy dead. The boy was driving the ATV along with a 15-year old passenger Sunday, when he lost control in a water hole and flipped. Resucers were able to move the ATV off the driver but were unable to save his life. The passenger was treated for minor injuries. In the other incident, which happened late Saturday afternoon, a 22-year-old in a pickup truck collided with an ATV on County Road 52 in rural Remer, Minnesota. The ATV’s 14-year old driver suffered serious but non life-threatening injuries. A 13-year old passenger was treated at the scene. The pickup driver from Boy River was arrested for DUI.

Johnson Captures Republican Endorsement

Jeff Johnson captured the Republican Party’s endorsement for governor late Saturday afternoon at the state G-O-P convention in Duluth, after Mary Giuliani Stephens and Phillip Parrish dropped out following the third ballot….

Johnson has a major hurdle before the November election: the August Republican primary, when he will be up against former Governor Tim Pawlenty, who entered the race late and didn’t seek his party’s endorsement.
