MOVIE NIGHT TONIGHT

As summer winds down, you are invited to come out tonight for Movie in the Park night, showing The Lorax… a classic Dr. Seuss story at Lake Bimidji State Park. It runs from 7 to 8:30 Wednesday evening at the ampphitheater, and is open to everyone. Feel free to bring along pillows, blankets, and snacks. This is a pet-friendly program, however pets must be kept on a 6 foot leash and be kept under control at all times. In case of bad weather, the program will be moved inside the Visitor Center.

REFUSE REMOVAL SCHEDULE CHANGE FOR HOLIDAY IN BEMIDJI

Residential refuse customers in the city of Bemidji who are normally picked up on Monday, September 3rd, will be picked up on Tuesday, September 4th instead, due to the Labor Day holiday.

RED LAKE CHIEF PASSES

The Red Lake Tribal Council… via their Facebook page… has announced the passing of Hereditary Chief & formerly appointed Tribal Chairman, GEORGE “BILLY” KING. All flags of the Red Lake Nation Government Center, Tribal Programs & Tribal Entities, have been ordered to be flown at HALF-STAFF in honor and respect of the recent passing of Chief King. Billy served as Chairman for a short time after the passing of Gerald “Butch” Brun.

TURTLE LAKE TOWNSHIP HOUSE FIRE

Bemidji Firefighers responded to a mobile home fire on Sunday morning in Turtle Lake Township in the 400 block of Islandview DR NW. Upon arrival, Firefighters found the home completely engulfed in flames. Nobody was home at the time. The building and its contents are considered a total loss. The fire cause is under investigation by the fire department and Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office.

NATIONAL GUARD TO ASSIST WITH FIRE FIGHT IN BELTRAMI COUNTY

Governor Mark Dayton has ordered the Minnesota National Guard to assist with firefighting efforts in Beltrami County, where a 500-acre wildfire has been burning since Wednesday…. the result of a DNR prescribed burn that was intended to manage brushlands. The National Guard will provide two water-dropping helicopters to battle the blaze. At this time the fire is limited to state lands and officials say no structures or private land are currently threatened.
