DHS ACCUSED OF TOXIC ENVIRONMENT

Minnesota’s Department of Human Services is accused of having a toxic environment, especially for minorities and Native Americans. Some of the accusations include that employees who were people of color were sometimes targets of racial slurs and harassment. They were also allegedly denied promotions and raises. Commissioner Jodi Harpstead, who was appointed to the department’s top job last year, said in a recent interview that she is aware of the problems. She claims that she’s creating programs to address the issues and eventually make the DHS an anti-racist organization.
