TURTLE LAKE TOWNSHIP HOUSE FIRE

Bemidji Firefighers responded to a mobile home fire on Sunday morning in Turtle Lake Township in the 400 block of Islandview DR NW. Upon arrival, Firefighters found the home completely engulfed in flames. Nobody was home at the time. The building and its contents are considered a total loss. The fire cause is under investigation by the fire department and Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office.

NATIONAL GUARD TO ASSIST WITH FIRE FIGHT IN BELTRAMI COUNTY

Governor Mark Dayton has ordered the Minnesota National Guard to assist with firefighting efforts in Beltrami County, where a 500-acre wildfire has been burning since Wednesday…. the result of a DNR prescribed burn that was intended to manage brushlands. The National Guard will provide two water-dropping helicopters to battle the blaze. At this time the fire is limited to state lands and officials say no structures or private land are currently threatened.

MINNESOTA SUPREME COURT ORDERS RECONSIDERATION IN TEACHER LAWSUIT

The Minnesota Supreme Court has ordered the state Court of Appeals to reconsider a decision to dismiss a lawsuit that claims teachers union rules protect bad educators. The state’s top court on Tuesday, said the appeals court should re-examine the case after a recent state Supreme Court ruling that allowed a class-action lawsuit seeking to desegregate Twin Cities schools to proceed.
The case regarding teachers union protections was brought back in 2016, by four Minnesota mothers, who allege tenure, seniority-based layoffs and other rules violate students constitutional right to an “uniform and thorough education.”
