State Park to Remain Open During Deer Hunt

Lake Bemidji State Park will remain open during the youth deer hunt, October 20th through 22nd, but visitors are advised to wear blaze orange gear, available at the park office, while the hunt is in progress. Call the park at 218 308-2300 with questions.

Beltrami County Sheriff’s Report Friday AM

At 6:29pm Wednesday, Beltrami County Sheriff’s Deputy Nicholas Bender responded to complainant Kari Lyn Lisowe’s theft report of a gas drive off involving a vehicle with a stolen license plate at 10469 Werner Rd NW 565 in Bemidji. No additional information was released.

Deputy Josh Cook, alond with School Resource Officer Jon Hunt and Corrections officer Jonathan Brustad, responded at 3:17pm to a report of an ongoing theft from a residence at 10125 N Garden Lane NE in Bemidji, according to complainant Stephanie LaRae Patch. The investigation is ongoing.

At 11:40am Wednesday, Beltrami County Sheriff’s Deputy Emily Larson transported an unidentified adult female with an outstanding Beltrami County warrant to jail from the 5000 block of Allen’s Bay Drive SE in CASS LAKE. No additional information was released.

Nurses Revisit Allina Agreement

One year after the strike ended, nurses represented by the Minnesota Nurses Association have taken formal steps to redress ongoing staffing issues at Allina Health hospitals in the Twin Cities, which were mutually agreed to in the 2016 contract agreement.

Deep Portage Alt Energy Expo

An alternative energy expo, sponsored by the Cass County Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America, is coming Oct. 28 from 1-3:30 p.m., to Deep Portage Learning Center. Tours are offered of the alternative energy installations and energy efficiency upgrades that have been installed in recent years.

Fargo Couple Sues Catholic Charities

A Fargo couple has filed a civil suit in Cass County District Court against Catholic Charities of North Dakota for more than $6.5 million, claiming the agency discriminated against them for being engaged but not yet married when they applied to adopt a child.

Northern MN Math Contest at BSU

On Tuesday, October 17th, Bemidji State University will host 900 high school mathematics students from across northern Minnesota for the 45th Annual Northern Minnesota Math Contest. Registration begins at 10 a.m. in the Gillett Wellness Center.

Raymond Sex Offender Sentenced

A Raymond sex offender was sentenced Wednesday to nine years in prison and 100 years on supervised release for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old and setting his home on fire. 48-year-old Kyle Clarence Rhoda pleaded guilty a month ago. He was sentenced to 110 months for the sexual misconduct and 78 months for arson. They are to be served concurrently.

Duluth Deer Stand Thefts

Duluth Police say theives were caught on trail cameras allegedly stealing deer stands near Observation Road. They were stolen Sept. 11, but reported on Oct. 5. Duluth’s Bow Hunt for Deer Season continues through Dec. 31. A screen capture of the suspects is published at; bemidjipioneer.com

MPC Impairment Listing

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has proposed removing an impairment listing for PCBs. Fish sampled in the Red River of the North now have PCB levels low enough to meet the standard for consumption, while mercury impairments remain.
